I've spent what seems to be ages away from detailling diesels, trying to get the new layout, Sweethome Alabama, into a state where I could take some scenic photos. I finally got there last weekend when I finished off the 'basic' scenery' - ie got the plaster work painted and sprinkled some scatter onto the wet paint. Here are the first few photos of the freight house and some freight cars. I hope to get some foliage on the trees and ground cover on all the visible green bits. Now fetch me a shrubbery. Ni! Jon

That looks awesome Jon! You mean to tell me that they (CSX) cant bring you trees to the Freighthouse? Surely they could fit a few dozen baby fir trees into one of those well(expertly) weathered boxcars! Keep up the great work! PS.. I'll talk to the Traffic manager and see if the SP cant deliver some trees up your way via Chigaco, youll have to get one of the east coast roads to get them the rest of the way. ;D ( we have way to many trees and shrubberys at the moment ) Paul

Just look what they did to the last lot. ;D Jon

Jon you have a serious weed problem happening on your layout. LOL ;D That's Sweethome Chicago, not to be confused with Sweethome Alabama, which at the time had no weeds or any other scenery on it - that's about to change 'big time', now I've spead some Miracle Grow onto SWA. Sweethome Chicago as it should look Same spot 60 years later Jon

I'll acknowledge that the thread was directed to the freight cars, but nice touch on the faded Family Lines logo on the CSXT GP38...which reminds me I have a good number of P2K GP38-2's stashed away and waiting to be CSXT'd....

Thanks guys. Air-lifting in trees, concrete ones to boot - like it I've air-lifted in another couple of trees today, just in time to catch a CSX local, heading to pick up a couple of Frisco hoppers. Now I'm waiting for the next shipment of trees. Jon

Wow, I LIKE the way your cars turn out. I'm aiming for that effect myself, but I sure haven't hit it yet! That looks really nice, especially the Railbox and the Frisco hoppers. I do think the rail bumper needs to be toned down some, it seems kinda bright compared to everything else, though. You do some nice scenery work though, that is for sure. I like all the grass and weeds that are around and between the tracks. These are the kind of effects I wish I could produce, but my specialty seems to be in the electrical side of things, not the scenery area...
