After seeing Sammy's SDF40-2 I decided to start mine. Now while waiting for some detail parts to arrive I shot a few pics. This one is going to be 5254. I did not use very many of the Kaslo supplied detail parts. I used Cannon fans, Detail Associates AC, the exhaust silencer has been in the parts box for 15 years or more, the inertial filter hatch came from an Athearn SD45-2. For the large antenna I used the supplied top but used .015 brass wire for the legs. The roof top plumbing is made from .012 brass wire and Plano's smallest lift rings. That strange section on the fuel tank is the waste tank. Normally it would be mounted to the back of the fuel tank but since they did not have enough room they cut out a section of fuel tank and made the waste tank to match the contour of the fuel tank. Now if those detail parts I am waiting for will arrive I would be able to finish up detailing and shoot some paint.

Eric,
Now, that's what I'm talking about! Once you get it finished, you'll have to bring it up and we'll do another version of the "Holy Cowl" picture!
Those conduit supports supplied by Kaslow were best replaced by lift rings.

Thanks guys.
I did get the trucks painted but that is all the farther the paint will get until a box of parts arrive.

That is so sweet looking! What detail parts are the castings around the fuel tank? I have one nearly finished in N scale and am lacking detail parts for the fuel tank.
Cheers

Cheers Alister Thanks for the kind comment. I labeled the detail parts on and around the fuel tank. Hope this was what you were looking for? Since the picture I did get the the frame and tank painted and many of these parts are not very noticeable now that they are painted black. If you are looking for photos that show off the tank details check out the pictures of the preserved unit. The silver paint really makes the details stand out. www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoPicture.aspx?id=44034

Eric, you could paint that black and put it in a dark room and your work would stand out as excellent.. Nice job. Keep it up! Paul

Eric, Looks really good in paint! I think with some weathering and a drybrushing on the lower details, you'll have a real winner when it's done. Sure looks like a lot of work but you and Sammy made it look easy! Cant wait to see more. Paul

Thanks Paul, this has been one of the most time consuming projects especially for not having any major kitbashing or scratch building involved. A bit of work went into cleaning up some of the rough spots and it seemed like everything needed a little extra attention to get right or to fit right. I am hoping to have it finished this weekend.

Eric, I know what ya mean .. After moving the stupid door latches on the GP-60 I created even more work.. and all of it is very carefully sanding things smooth then primer then repeat etc. ...I guess it all depends how much one loves the subject we are working on at the time. I look forward to seeing yours finished! Mine too! Paul

Finally it is just about done. It still has some internals to be finished up. Excellent work as always Eric! That one was really worth staying after, the weathering is particularly well done Paul

Thank you for the kind comments everyone.
I sure am glad I do not need a whole fleet of these. This was by far the most time consuming build I have done. Having no experience with resin kits probably did not help. In the end it was very well worth the effort as I am happy with the way it turned out.
Again thanks for the comments.
