Hi everyone I've been member of this forum for 2 years and this is the first time I'll post some pictures of my own locomotives. Although I love American (Model-)trains, I've only got two locomotives and a small diorama for them. They are SP F7's an A-unit and a B-unit, made by P2K. I really like them and I never dared to weather them and give them that realistic touch. But as I lived in Whistler, BC for three month this sping, I saw the big Nothamerican diesel engines in reality and not only on youtube and in magazines. So, after being back in Switzerland again I bought an airbrush and some other stuff and gave it a try. I hope you like my very first atempt of weathering engines. best regards Florian

Well welcome to your first posting...
Its pretty good on the weathering, nice light dusting all over, shows it is used often, looks like you used chalks also?....
Always try and have a picture of the real thing on hand (or a handful of different pics) for looking at while you are weathering... it is amazing they work you can reproduce while looking at the real thing....
I have found recently washes are amazing for bring out detail and creating some great effects.... Just look at the headline photo. You can use acrylics like Polyscale and mixing that with distilled water to get a nice wash, just make sure the surface of the model has a dullcoat on it first so the wash can grib to the surface of the model..
I am trying to point out areas where you could use a different techinque to get a more realistic result...

Thanks for that very nice and informative answer, I really appreciate it! Yes, I used pastel powders in the grill area (rusty colour) and to simulate grime around the exhaust (black). I found some pictures of sister locomotives before I went to Whistler, but somehow I completely for got to use them.... ...and as I'd like to model the CP of today I know that I'll be a lot easier to find reference photos Yes, washes are great, I learnt that building plastic models, but somehow it dindn't come to my mind to use that technique on locomotives aswell.... again, thank you a lot forhelping me! best regards Florian
