[img src="[/img] "]This old gal won me a 2nd place in 95 in Lynchburg Va @ rail day 95 she has taken a beating since then a grandson and moved around unprotected and yes the ultimate sin she took a nose dive off a friends layout but she is up for an overhaul i am starting on it as i post this just giving you the before and after thing.#3264 is an locotrol equipped loco master unit a, allso working on kitbashing an radio control car.i figure a good place to start on that would be a 40ft boxcar! I'm go strip the paint and repaint with decals add new hand rails lights mu cables and a few other minor details i missed . it all ready has step lights a correct mu stand for southern plow mu hose's nose bell Nathan 5 chime horn.and as the years went by i really started to see that old stock athearn stanchions look like they came from a wreck or needed feel the touch of a cutting torch !its amazing how many more accurate detail part's are now available then when i originally built the ole girl

Terry, 3264 is not be one of the units equipped with Locotrol. The SD40-2's that were equipped with Locotrol were numbered from 3288 - 3312.
As far as the radio receiver car is concerned, your best bet is to get one of the WrightTrak resin kits and go from there.

long hood end deck has crack in it and a the steps cracked thinking on replacing them with see thru brass and may be some fiber optics to represent the step light I have been thinking on the optics for a while now

well most of the units didnt have plows i tought the same also but i did some research and few units had plows everyone has to remember southern railway did allways operate in the sunny south i got my idea from an article in model railroader witch also did an excellent southern ry bay window caboose article it was in october 1984 and it also had an article on southern ry's murphy branch that is now closed and is now the great smoky mountains railroad tourist line. and another excllent sd 40-2 article is in Model Railroading August 1995. both excellent articles

well through closer inspection i found that the cannon hood kit has several cracks in it.so i am go pull the short hood off of it and replace it with a new hood i have allready installed air filter new air tanks and working on traction motor cables found my old speed recorder hahaha and it will be put back so stay tuned

I was told my a friend that worked for Norfolk Southern, that after the merger, some of those units from the sunny south got sent up north....and if they needed a plow one got installed.

Thanks Paul there are now way more parts available then when i originaly had done it I have a few units i did having to use another athearn shell as short tall hood doners.Iam allso go have to figure out a way to rebuild the rear light it to got over half of it chipped off during its maiden flight to the concrete floor
