Here is my next project, I'm not adding too many details since Atlas has done a good job of including most of the details. I really wanted to replicate the burnt engine bay. I plan on replacing the stock decoder and light with a TCS A4x with white LEDs.

Why is it that GE's catch fire so much? looks like it will be an interesting conversation piece.

I think I heard somewhere it is either a turbo failure or injector problem causing them to burn...

Most often it is a leak/failure of a high pressure fuel line coupling near an injector. If the fuel gets sprayed on the exhaust manifold, it's just a matter of time.

Here is an update, so far I have painted and added decals. I have started weathering the unit. To answer your question PEIR, I am using acrylic paints applied with a cosmetic sponge along with weathering powders to replicate the burnt area. I couldn't leave this project as just a paint and weathering job, so I added a little something special. The last picture shows what I am trying to do. Any guesses? ;D Thanks for looking

of my 3 guesses one has to be correct 1. A burnt through area. 2. A smoker unit, get the look and the action 3. A flicker unit, as above, burn me once, burn me twice, or a combo flicker unit and smoker.

sorry kcs1967, it has nothing to do with the engine burning or running, but those are great ideas. Let's see who else can guess.

The B40 is really turning out nice.. very good job on the burnt paint and overall weathering. The step lights really add a lot too. Keep the pictures comming. Paul

I see BNSF engines roll thru Spokane almost every day and many have that scorched look. You've really captured the look. Good job.

Looks really good, what colors did you use for the burnt section?
I like the lighting effects as well.

Just as a side note, the 562 was sold to the Providence and Worcester and is making it's way to Massachusetts at this time. David

So if Alcos are smokers,, does this make Dash 8s burners?? Great job, nice in process shots, and incredible finished project.
