Looks great Riss2509. These seem to be getting popular on the detailer lately and I love it.

That is a great looking fuel tender. I've got shots of some of these up on Crawford Hill several years ago.

riss2509 that is some nice work there and some simple addons make all the difference. Are those fuel tenders still in use?

I never realized they used such large tankers for fuel tenders. I always thought the weight of the diesel fuel would collapse the car.
That turned out really nice!

They are not using these anymore as fuel tenders. They are used only as tank cars. They buy diesel where it is cheapest and fill these cars and spot them at Crawford and other areas where it is expensive to by fuel. You see them all of the time on the sand hills sub running from Lincoln to Alliance.

Mr Hoover is correct, the fuel tenders are no longer in use on Crawford Hill. They quit using them several years ago. Here's a pic from May 2003 that shows a typical set up during that era. The SD60M's are no longer used for helper service either - they've been replaced with pairs of AC motors.

We're bringin' 'em back!
Seriously, that's just kinda odd that both of us did these fuel tenders within a few days of each other! What else do you have planned for the unit?

Well, the hard part is doing the fuel sight gauges on the end. There is one on top and bottom on the same end. I may forgo them asit woul dbevery hard to keep them secure since I bring this car to shows and such. Plus they arent even noticed, its just a cool surprise at the end. For instance, if you got to the EMD and BNSF SD40-2's, you can see it running with a helper set. It gave some great looks when ya see the 40 car unit grain set comin through and the 2 units with the tender on the rear lol.

I hear you on the sight gauges. I half thought of doing them from the fuel tank detailing set from Details West, but I'm not sure I need to get that far into it. We'll see what happens, but I'm not thinking so. In other news, I got my shipment of Sergeant couplers in, including the double shelf couplers for the fuel tenders. They look huge compared to the regular couplers, and they don't come apart anyway at all. I can see why the prototype uses them, they are effective!

Yay! More projects done.
I'm considering taking mine to the club, since I wanted to do my Dash 9's tomorrow, but I can't find the coupler box covers...sigh...
