On my first visit to Conrail's Consolidated Terminal in Allentown, PA, in July 1976, I encountered Delaware & Hudson U30C 708 on train NE87. It was one week out of the paint shop and looked spectacular. And so it came to pass that some years after moving to St. Louis and developing some modelling skills, I remembered that U-boat and attempted to model it. This was long before the wonderful Atlas model, so I turned to Athearn's model as a starting point, gathered together some appropriate details from Utah Pacific, Detail Associates and Details West, prepared the tools and dug in. And that's about as far as it got. I found these slides today and thought you'd find them, um, entertaining. Might even finish it someday. I bent the handrails out of .020 brass wire and was pretty proud of them.

That is an Excellent start, Bill, you need to keep that one going! I'm still struggling with an ICRR U30B build, and I am not even close to where you are with your U-Boat.

I would definitely like to see this finished as well. Those handrails are awsome!

Best regards,

Thanks for the encouraging comments, guys.
The handrail stanchions and the lift rings on top of the hood are by Utah Pacific.

Wasn't this one of the "boats" that was sent to NdeM in 1979?
