Nicely done Bobby.
How did you build your Freon tanker?

My thanks to you all for your comments. I saw a photo in an old Mainline Modeler and wanted to model it. Many year latter I took a Atlas 33,000 tank car and cut it to size. I scratched the top platform, saddles and end walkways. I used the truck wheelbase to come up with the diamentions. There's also a photo in the ACF book, a B end shot. Bobby

Thanks KCS. I added several photos of my AC4400CW Athearn/OMI drive and my SD90MAC RPP/OMI drive to my flickr site.
Thanks, Bobby

Nice work. I have been sitting on one of these AC60CW myself and have been wondering about how to pull of some of the mods. Would you mind sharing some of the techniques you used to pull it off? I'm interested in how you extended the side sills/walkway and the method used to swap around the radiator section doors and the added latches for them. Oh, and the color matching.

It's hard to discribe everthing I did, and believe me I love to share. 7510 and up have most all of the changes, if you use a lower number you won't have to make many of them. The key to what I did was a extra body. The walkway is OK on them. I thined mine with a #11 blade and used the extra walkway to extend it. I cut the rad inlets from the ex body by drilling arround them, then drilled inside the the ones I changed to make the opening. The cab grill on the L side was made using the one from the ex body. This change is on all UP engines. The top is fine on 7509 and down. The L side doors are OK too. I cut the tanks off with a Dremel tool and scratched the new ones. I used Floquil Armor Yellow and kept adding red until it looked right when brushed I applied it on the cab of the spare shell. The gray was produced by adding black to Harbor Mist Gray till it looked right. If you have other questions email me at Bobby

I used CMA #1016 40' steel roofwalk. I got the idea from an article in one of the model RR mags. I also use it on my tank cars.

No not at all. They're a fairly obscure co, the roofwalk might be all they make!? Creative Model Associates. I just looked in the Walthers Cat., they make 3 structures, ladders, crates and the roofwalk.

You get 3 walks in each pack, so one might do. Get two to be on the safe side. There's some flash that has to be cleaned off, I use a small brass brush and a # 11. It cuts with a single edge blade, with some filing on the edges to fit. With your skill, it'll be fun.

CMA is a subset of another company I was thinking it was Central Valley, but I do not have the info in front of me. those walkways are amazing, in addition to the walkways they make a ladder kit wit a safety cage. They also make another walkway kit for buildings(it is what i use on my tank battery for my oil lease on my module). It seems to me that there are actually three different company names that each focus on; CMA (structure details), CV (track details), and the third line that focuses on Train details. I find the company names an update later. If anyone else know the correct info feel free to correct me.

How much did you raise the long hood? I've got the same number and I need to start working on mine. I just have to figure out the long hood doors thanks to UP modifying 7513 into an Ac4460CW and renumbering it to 6900.

Also CMA merged with Tichy Train Group and the roofwalk number is 3077 from Walthers.
