Hey Everyone! This started out as a SP Kato C44-9W. I detailed it and painted it using Scale Coat II paint. I used a mix of Mircoscale and Shellscale Decals. The cab headlights is custom fitted. I used Kato SD70MAC fiber optics and they worked perfectly. Josh

This engine (and the others) looks good. It must be high horsepower heaven on your layout. Welcome to the Detailer.

Can someone explain to me Shellscale? I've NEVER heard of them! Are they like MS? I mean, do they do actual roads, or something else?
Thanks.
And I looks like I'm in central PA............Oh WAIT! I am! Good job on all!

Josh, I hate to bring this up, but the Kato has the wrong rad. inlet grills. The NS has long and short grills. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine looking model, but this is something that stands out like a sore thumb. Many others have made this same mistake, so your in good company.

Josh, I have not tried this, and if anyone has, let me know if it is feasible, but you might get an Athearn C44-9w shell with the correct later (Phase 2?) version grills and see if you can replace the incorrect ones on your model. The AC4400CW shell by Kato has the correct tall/short grills which may be easier to work with, but the shell would probably be difficult/expensive to get. I think the conductor's side would only need one grill/door changed. The Athearn grills may also look a little different in relief from the Kato ones, so it might be better to replace the entire group on each side. Also, see if you can get a later version fuel tank from Kato, which they made for the AC400CW and which would fit on the new Dash-9s like the one you started with. Nice work on your model, though.

Shellscale makes excellent NS, NW & Southern decals. They also make numberboard and number decals for EMD, GE and ALCo.. They are silkscreened. www.shellscale.com/index.htmlLooking good Josh!! Jay does any one make white letters with black background that are lightable?

Thanks guys! Yeah I know about the short grills, but at the time wasnt sure about splicing them out. Ime currently working on 2 more dash 9s (one kato and one athearn) and they will have the correct grills!
