Hey All- This is an Athearn BB that represents a SoCal native. She got a lot of weathering. First, I mixed Armor Yellow with reefer white and thinner, and applied the 'sun burns' to the nose.(not that visible in the pix). Then, the whole unit was faded, then weathering powders and airbrush. Lastly, the decals....... Rick

That is a nicely done unit. I especially like the peeled paint you did on the top of the cab. Very nice work!

Rick, try the laser cut windows from American Model Builders for the BB Athearn Dash 9. The windows have slightly beveled edges, are installed from the outside, and fit flush to the front edges of the window frames. The big improvement is they are not deeply "recessed" like the stock Athearn plastic ones. They are easily installed using Microscale Liquitape. I like your graffiti and rust and faded paint treatment. You've done a really nice job here, and I think you would enjoy your model even more with the replacement windows.

Thanks guys and gals-
Yeah, I wanted to put in the window sets, but I can't find them anywhere. Does somebody know of a steady supplier with a website?
thanks........

Hi Rick, great job, and funny that your model is the same roadnumber as one of mine. :-) Thanks for the tip on the windows guys, it will make a huge difference I think, so I looked them up and ordered some for myself. You can order the windows directly from them (under their Lasercut brandname) . Here is the link: www.laserkit.com/laserkit.htm Go to HO in the left column, then select windows on the main screen, and select your model. The add to cart button then redirects you to a secure Paypal page , so it's easy if you have a paypal account. :-)

great work on the model. I think that no matter if it is a blue box or Genesis, a little bit of work and some extra details and nice weathering will make a fine model.
