This started out as a Atlas C30-7. The ends and roof are cannon parts, sides are scratch built with recesses for Cannon doors (that still need to be cut down). Ideas or suggestions on how to do the louvers would be greatly appreciated. Here is a pic at www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1724828 The Plano switcher ones look like they may be close. The BLMA N scale louvers looks like a possibility too. Any other louvers out there that could work for this? Does anybody make decals for these? If not I guess I will try a set of switcher decals since they had smaller lettering. Thanks, Eric

Nice model, you've got a great start here! I've used the Plano louvers before, you can see them on the TEBUC6 project in the Switchers category. One thing you might also consider trying is some glue on individual louvers, I know there is a company that makes them, I don't remember who, but I was thinking it was one of the major ones, DA or DW, one of the two. Tedious, but seems it would be a good solution for you. They were discussed on here a while back.
As for the decals, I would almost say the lettering looks full size to me. Too bad we don't have another unit to compare it to nearby, but hey, that's the way it goes sometimes. Good luck with the project!

Eric, The decal set you need which will be Microscale 87-548 and it's for Alco switchers. It's as close as you will get without having custom decals made which I have thought about. The lettering is definitely smaller than the standard Santa Fe on diesel hood sides by far. Those louvers are now made by Plano and are part numbers are #461 and 14612. Both can be viewed on their website here : www.planomodelproducts.com/dieseld_scq.htmlGreat job so far! Perry

Thanks for the help. I am going to order the Plano 14612 louvers and see how they look. Also I will pick up the Alco switcher decals.
Also the link is fixed.
Again thank you for the help. Eric

That's a great start, I model Santa Fe and BNSF in a smaller scale so I'm really interested in seeing how you tackle this! Looks so good!

Thanks for the link in the other thread Eric. I'm surprised I missed this thread for almost a whole year. Were you able to keep it powered? No, I was not. I would have had to machine out the tank to lower the motor or repower with a smaller motor. Also it gives me spare parts for my c30-7 that sounds like coffee grinder.
