I am just getting back into the hobby so this project had been in storage for a while. It started out as a Kato SD40 receiving a fair amount of modifications. One of things that still needs fixing is the brake lever opening or I may just replace the whole nose with a cannon nose. Otherwise it is about ready to paint. Eric

Can you cut the brake side out and graft the blank Cannon piece in? I milled a decorated shell to do this Karl

Very nice job! How did you construct the radio antena stand?

Karl, that is a pretty good idea. I am sure I have some of those left over.
Kiro, I make the antenna by cutting out a piece of styrene then I will tack it down to the roof with just enough glue to keep it from moving while i drill the leg holes through the stand top and the roof, after that I will pull the stand top off of the roof. I glue in .015 wire for the legs with the cab upside down on a spacer to get the legs perfectly level. Then I just mount the top to the legs with just enough of the wire sticking up to look like a bolt (or whatever is used on the prototype to mount the top to the legs).

I saw a CSX SD40-2 back in the late 90's in my hometown that had that handbrake stand on the rear porch just like yours, and I wanted to model that unit ever since.

Nice job! It's a great representation of the SD39 as there is a literal boat-load of differences between the SD39 and straight 40. Excelent work for (in my opinion) a more difficult locomotive to model.

Now that I like! I've always liked odd EMD SD units. Looks beautiful, please post some more photos as you progress.

Thank you for the kind comments. I will post updates when I get some paint on it. Since I had not worked on anything for about 2 years many of my paints are not in liquid form anymore. I need to visit the LHS for some fresh paint and some Cannon fans too, the other fans have got to go.
