Well, I'm finally starting my first project ever, I've been buying and stockpiling railcars and locos for years and have been recently buying all the tools of the trade. I figure this custom bobber will be a good vict... I mean skills builder before I tackle the meat and potatoes of model railroading. I'm doing 2 different bobbers, 1 steel cupola and 1 wide vision cupola, I got both off of Ebay, both are old BB kits, I didn't want to pay 30 bucks for a caboose, and both will be riding on the Walthers metal passenger car trucks with the long wheel base. I will be doing a full on customization, metal grabs, plano caboose detailing kit, proto87 wheels, and Sergent couplers. So here is what I did so far...

I believe bobber cabeese were outlawed well before steel cars were built, and definatly before the wide-vision caboose design came about. Now if you put the cut body on a flat or better yet a small steam tender frame, you could have a double rebuild. A wood bobber caboose put on a longer frame to stay legal, then rebuilt with a steel body later.

I love it! Of course, I like funky things and items that are 'outside of the box'. Please keep us posted with the progress.
I do like the bobber on a flat idea. I did one on a MDC flat car a while ago.

Keep in mind that I'm not doing prototypical railcars in this instance, this is more of having fun with oddballs than actual cars, I am also thinking of doing bobber boxcars, gondolas, flats and some others, for a micro layout to put on my semi, very tight curves and such. Just thinking outside the box.

I glued the end on today, and I need to cut down the floor to fit.

No progress yet, I left all my model railroading stuff at the house because I still don't have all the tools that I need or modeling parts, but my recent orders will fill that void and should be at the house waiting for me when I go home for home time, THEN I will bring my portable tool shop with me on the big rig.
