This is a model that I'd weathered a while back, but while I was working on my Chessie GP40-2 last night, I dug this out and fixed a few things I didn't like about it. Original: Fixed:

Looks good, I remember hanging out at the Ashtabula Harbor Yards while driving for D&T. You could look down and see the tops of the locomotives and almost every Conrail unit had a red oxide looking covering all over the tops of the hood and cab. Never quite figured out where that came from.

If I remember correctly the red grime from the type of brake shoes Conrail used. On the roof? I always thought it was from the iron ore elevators they went under.

According to the Conrail Encyclopedia (www.crcyc.railfan.net), the red dust is from the iron brake shoes that Conrail used. Also, since it was iron dust, it caused anything it landed on (such as locomotive hoods and walkways) to rust very rapidly.
