I know the section is switchers and my subject line reads road power but I can explain. I first built my layout about ten years ago and it was much smaller than it is now. I was modeling an abandoned line that ran down through Cumberland County into Franklin County and was hauling mostly odds and ends freight with some covered hoppers thrown in and really only needed a couple of units to move the freight. Now I had plenty of through power to the yard, mostly Conrail but these three were the first. CN&W 27 is a Kato NW2. It was a pennsy unit that I painted out the logo on, added some basic decals and spark arresters. CN&W 28 is an Athearn SW1200 that I added a larger fuel tank, air tanks on the hood and some spark arresters. I repowered it with a can motor and it matched up to the Kato unit in speed. A bit of weight in it and I had road power than ran up and down the helix merrily..... CN&W 34 is an Athearn SW1500 that I repowered with a Helix Humper motor. It does not have much in the way of speed but it pulls fantastically. And yard power was born...and it was good.

The backdrop is a photo I took of the street side of Carlisle Frog & Switch...yes they made RR Frogs and Switches here in tiny little Carlilse for many years. Now they make rock and ore crushers and buckets for strip mine drags.....I just blew up the photo I took using a free photo program and printed it out with good results. Thanks....
