Hey guys, Okay, so I was at a show last weekend and picked up two Athearn RTR SP GP40X locos for $40 ea. #'s 7230 and 7231. Then while searching ebay I find one undec. unit for $29.00, something I couldn't resist! I've always wanted to model SP 7200, which was one of two GP40X units still on the roster in 1996, the other being SP 7231. My model is going to depict SP 7200 in the early 1990's, 5-light show removed, class lights plated over, worn lettering, rust and dirt everywhere, new strobe atop the cab, replaced/fixed L-window, etc, etc. Below are a couple photos of it BEFORE I started on it this afternoon, I've already got quite a bit done... Couldn't resist, had to put one number board in! I'll keep you all updated...

Here are a few recent photos of SP 7200. Here's a summery of what I've done thus far: Removed the 5-light package, plated over class lights, filled the nose gyralight notch, added the A/C unit, horn, bell, antenna stand, shades, eye bolts, etc, etc. There are still dozens of things I am going to add, still waiting for the LHS to get the parts in. I'll keep you all posted!

Wayne, the part I used for the rear light package is from Detail Associates, (#1021), just a blank bracket, no other parts. The headlight I used is also from DA and the covers are BLMA etched-brass Removed Headlight covers. I pieced together the bracket on the 7200 according to prototype photos.

Hey guys, Here are a few photos of the 7200 before she's sent into the paint shop, all details in place and ready for paint! As you'll see in these photos that I've updated many, many details on this model, got rid of the some and added others, the final product will look like the 7200 did in the 1990-91 years. I am STILL waiting for Athearn to send me the correct Q fans for this model, so it may take a few weeks for more photos. Completed photos will be posted in the FINISHED section.
