Impressive! That looks great! I like the progress shots, you can see how many freaking pieces you added.

Thank you, I really don`t know how many pieces were required among Canon&Co, PFM, Details West, Details Associates, Smokey Valley, Utah Pacific, A-Line, etc., recall using a list of the parts needed and used it for kitbashing three more SD40-2s, one is a Kodachrome Snoot 5026 (Athearn BB), the second represents a to a mid order 5115 (BLI) and the third one is still in progress which will mate the 5130 with Qfans

Beauty of a model you've got there!
I like the Santa Fe too and I've always liked the SD40-2's also!

Back view. After this, the model was ready for primer. I used Floquil primer gray and Scalcoat II reefer yellow and ATSF blue, after decals were applied a mix of dullcoat / glosscoat to give a semi-mate finish, this has work very good and supports a lot of handling. Ever since have used Tamiya flat white as primer, found that the lighter colors look much better and one of the good things about Tamiya is that cures very fast and are very very thin.

real nice work... BNSF retained I think 6 of these. Now that I've seen your unit I have to check if the one I'm doing has some of these characteristics. I don't think mine has the wide turbo hatch ect...
Is the Santa Fe paint scheme hard to pull off even with the decals if you use them or is it like anything else once you do it? One of my sd40s in the near future is gonna be ATSF.
