I've been looking at the pictues of some of the loco's posted on this site and am just amazed at the quality. I have learned a ton of stuff just from looking in the last few weeks at the board and can't wait to try some of it. In the mean time, here's a few of my FEC engines. Athearn SD40-2 (i painted these before BLI came out with theirs, I usually don't paint engines that I can buy) Has the wrong horn on it....been meaning to correct it for a while. Athearn GP38-2 (I know you can buy these, but I wanted to paint one anyway) I need to update the horn and coupler on this one. Athearn GP40-2 I've been reading a lot about the Cannon Cabs. I think on my next project I will have to use one. The athearn shells are my favorite to use, but I always thought the cabs never fit correctly. I always heard of the Cannon ones but never built one. Looking at photos of them on this site convinces me that I need to switch to them.

They are all great looking engines, I love the paint scheme on the 2000, wish that was their regular scheme, I do not like the railamerica scheme

nice looking selection of the FEC power. As for fitting the Cannon cab, I never have had any problems with the ones that I have done. Just make sure that you have clean cut lines and fill areas where needed.

These do look sweet!
Brian Banna did a tutorial that shows how to do a cannon cab, it saved me a lot of trouble and my first cannon cab came out ok.
After seeing it through my kitbash projects, one of the most awkward looking things about the BB cab is that the front and rear windows have almost squared corners. The newer rtr cabs are better.

Awesome models! I myself want to modify a 70M PH II to make those RailAmerica units. The locos look stunning!

Thanks for the compliments! Brian Banna's tutorial is what really pushed me to want to try a Cannon Cab. I think they definatly look better than the BB cabs. As for the current Rail America paint on the new FEC prototypes, I'm also not impressed. I too wish they would have went with the classic red and yellow colors of the early FEC.

Those look pretty sharp! I remember chasing those FEC Geeps at 60 along US-1, sure is cool! Great work on those...they look really nice!

To be honest, I like the physical look of the locomotive, not the paint. I wish it was red and yellow. I plan to be getting a 90MAC and a 70M as KCSRailfan advised and making it into a SD70M-2 unit and adding the details and painting and weathering it to RA. However, I really like the Blue/Yellow scheme.

Nice models!! Is the plow low on 508 or does the picture just make it look that way? Excellent lokking units. I really like the red and yellow scheme. Cannon cabs are very nice, but be careful starting down the cannon road, soon you'll be replacing the nose, roof, fans, doors, its endless! ;D It is addicting, that is for sure....just be sure you know what you are getting into with Cannon. It pretty much turns into an addiction...

good eyes smoke! the plow is way too low. It needs raised a bit. I'll get to it some day. Your correct about the cannon stuff....i'm already looking at my next project and the detail parts list is 2 or 3 times what I usually use....I have the diesel detailer forum to thank for that.

Very nice FEC unit. FEC 709 is up in Canada on the Goderich & Exeter, they've been using her as a leader a lot. The big snowplow at the front will come in handy when winter arrives. ;D

Roger[/quote] Overland made them...I am not sure on the part number, I just happened to see them at the hobby shop and picked them up. They are actually taller than what they look like. I cut out out a hole for the spark arrestor to sit in so they would be prototypical. -Andrew

Andy, Your SD-40-2 looks much better than the BLI units. The color of the lettering is wrong and they used 2 different fonts on the numbers on the side of the cab. The SD-40's also do not have a lever style handbrake which BLI used. Personally they messed up on the FEC SD-40-2. Your models look great. I worked on the FEC locomotives for 22 years, now I don't work on them much.
