Guess what's finally going into the paint shop! I have been working on other projects a little bit on each one, and decided to just put it all aside, finish this and take it to club and paint it tonight. I finished plugging all the extra holes and made the coupler brackets on the end. Sorry the pics aren't so great, I usually just snap a shot or two and then post them. I'll post pics more tonight after paint. The coupler brackets should show up better once this is blue... model pre paint: prototype: www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=573128

So was I! -sorry to disappoint, I don't have the correct blue. I thought I got it the other day, and it's the wrong jar! Actually, noone has it in this area, so now I have to put together an online order. Otherwise I'd have to order 6 jars of the paint.
Anyway, I'll post pics as soon as I get this done.

Uncle Jay (modelmaker51) is very good when it comes to mixing colors. Drop him a PM, tell him what you have on hand, and maybe he can suggest a mix to match the color you need.

oh thanks Robert. I just called a LHS not so local, and he said he never heard of this 'bright blue' I speak of. -even though it's on the testors site. maybe it's a newer number? hoping to get this done today.

If the color is a match to the GATX blue Brian Banna was helping me with a similar unit and suggested Bright Blue Testors #1110. If i remember this is a Testors Model Master auto car paint.

Umm, actually - the four digit number is most likely refering to the small bottles of Testors enamel paint sold almost everywhere for models.
My favorite paint for DT&I orange is Testors 1127 orange.
Great paint, can be thinned down (use their airbrush thinner/cleaner) and goes on very smooth and thin.

oh hey guys, ya I had gotten a color mixdown from ModelMaker51 to get pretty close to the color I wanted. Yes, by the way this is the color Brian said he was pretty sure to match the loco I'm doing. I got my decals for this in the end from him as well. -I'll probably want more of those window gaskets soon...
So, I went to one hobby shop, looked for the new blue to mix and guess what, he didn't have that either. I turned on my heel, ordered the paint from Testors.com and 3 jars of paint were here 2 days later. TWO DAYS. I won't wait on finding paint from a LHS again! -Pics as soon as I can get back into paint mode and get back to the club and get it done.

ok, I'm heading to the club tonight to paint, but last night I was getting this ready for final assembly and I noticed a few things I had missed. First, although this nose does have the ratchet style brake, it has the wrong one, the fix: Then, I noticed this has the wrong air filter box (I think that's what it is) in front of the dynamic brakes. I was going to file that down, but I stopped myself on that one. Then, I decided to put the uncoupler bars on before painting, which I'll do from now on. -glad I did. The mu cables are too close to the brackets, then I noticed I needed to file the pilot just a tad on all four corners. BUT, it's ready for paint except for the nose. I'll get that done later. I also noticed once I saw this pic that the bar is bent at a strange angle, I fixed it somewhat afterwards, it should be fine.

k, here are the images of this next step. This was my first time using MM enamel. I think it came out pretty good, there's still a few rough edges showing through the paint, but I'm happy with it... I'm still new at this! lol practice practice... It's still gonna look good. I'm going to let this sit and dry for 2-3 days before I even touch it again. thanks for looking!

hey everyone, just a couple of progress shots. I'll do a better job of taking pictures when this is done. I see a couple of spots that need touch-up paint.

thanks guys, yes actually I am new to this. This and the other 2 I have even less developed than this are the only ones I've done to this level. I have a few others I added parts to... oh cf7, I have 2 NREX locos in the cue. SD40Ts. They'll be grey with the red lettering, one will be a snoot. I've started to enjoy the lease thing too.
I tested the frame/chasis this morning. I added a plastic I beam for the frame rail, but it was hitting the trucks, so I sanded them down near the trucks, which thankfully wasn't noticeable. It ran fine over the layout with all it's harsh dips bends and turnouts with jutting points. If it can run on that layout, it can run anywhere! Track repair on that layout is a constant game, but I'm getting there.

Well, this 'id be done but I had to redo the short hood. Paint came out really strange, & the putty job showed through so it was actually a good thing, I need more practice on that! Anyway, here's one last shot before the final, this has been a lot of fun!

nope, I was wiped from the show on Saturday, (ok there were other things after the show that contributed). Right now my days are spent looking for a job. I can turn around and model inbetween ; ) but, as for going to the club and setting up the airbrush ect. I'm gonna have to wait a couple days. I can probably make a break for at night it when my wife has something like American Idol on the TV!
Since it's a B&W thing to finish I was thinking about spray cans.... naaaaaawwww

OK, so there's still the lights, I'm waiting on decals and then gloss/dulcote & windows go back in and the grab irons on the nose need the blue, which is at the club. I'm using an A6X board and thought it'd wire up like an A4X... no, it doesn't lol. There's a separate 1.5 pad... whatever! Other than that... it's done, and I'm taking it to the club tonight. I'll probably consist it with my GP60 later, but I want to run it by itself for a while too.
