Hello, who can give a little help ? I want to model INDR #2000, a SD10. www.railpictures.net/images/d1/6/2/0/8620.1176530400.jpgAs base I use a Life Like P2K SD7, unfortunately the version with dyn brakes. But that will be the easiest thing. I need a new low nose, a new front for the cab and the roof filter. Is the a source for such parts ? Who can help ? If there is a progress on my projekt, i'll post pictures Greetings from Germany Joerg

there was a company sometime ago, I think it was called Cascade & Pacific: www.cascadeandpacific.com/. These guys use to do resin complete nose castings for the GP10 and such, and 1 piece fillers for the SD7/9 GP7/9 cabs. I dont think theyre doing them anymore. But, you may be able to try ebay, or check other hobby shops. 1 last place is try Kaslo: www.kasloshops.com/. Good luck!

Jim, i meant, it will be easiest part of the work to change the loco from a unit with dyn. brakes to a unit without.

There is a guy on ebay who sells a lot of Atlas parts - you could pickup the parts for a low nose SD24, which would provide the cab and low nose to do the job... here is link to his ebay listing: shop.ebay.com/sooo-much-stuffI am not affiliated with this guy, but am a satisfied customer Brian

Watch out for him, he screwed me out of 20 bucks worth a parts a few months ago, used a lame excuse, and didn't send my items.

dtinut, the parts for the Atlas SD24 won't work, at least not without extensive modification and are not the correct size anyway. I'd just loco-smash to get what you want.
As for buying from that guy on ebay, I personally have not bought anything from him, but his shipping is high for the smallest of parts, for what you'll pay on shipping 3-4 items you could buy it directly from Atlas and have it within three days. That way you don't have to worry about not getting your parts! Atlas shipping prices are low too, at least considering how much other places are charging.

that unit looks a lot like it may have been an ex Milwaukee SD10. They added the other fuel tank back on it. When I build my SD10 years ago, I did what australianterrier suggested in a previous post. It is pretty easy. Back then it was an Athearn BB FAT HOOD model. the P2K should yield much better results.

I made one of these a few years back (painted for Milwaukee Road though). Chopping the high nose was actually one of the easier parts.
Measure from the walkway up a scale 4'-9" and cut straight across the nose. Sand the doors smooth on the conductors side. The roof of the portion you cut off needs more trimming to fit back on your new low nose. Its not easy but you need to cut right below the rounded edge of the roof. This will give you just the flat roof section from the old SD7. Test fit and sand until everything fits back together.
The bigger problem is that you now do not have a cab front or numberboards. For my SD10 I used a Cannon & Co thinwall cab kit and built up the numberboards from that. They should stick up above the cab roof.....lots of styrene and putty and sanding to get the slope right.
I dont know if there is a better solution for the cab front. I couldnt find anything and eventually gave up and just cut styrene to fit. It's good enough for me but if you look really close you can tell its not a perfect fit.
Walthers may have non-dynamic break hatches you can order.
The roof filter is avaliable from Details West. Its made for the old Athearn wide bodies. I cut the ends that overhang the high hood off and filed until they fit tightly against the side of the hood. (basically made a 3 piece filter out of the solid casting)

Thanks for all your informations and help.
All needed parts have been orderd. So I'll wait for them to start my SD10.
I got one Life Like non-dynamic break hatch from Modelmaker51. This of course is most suitable.
Photos will follow, so that you can see how it'll goes on.
Merry christmas

Meanwhile the locomotive is ready to paint The paint has to wait, however, because currently it is too cold in the cellar.

Dan,
what part do you mean ?
Do you mean the cast metal part on the long hood ?
It's the Horst Paducah air filter of Detail Associates, part 2706. But it has to be shorten to fit on the LL P2K hood.
Glenn, thanks for the photo. Not nice to see that #2001 isn't in good conditions. But ok, the loco is for working and not for good looking.
