"What's this nut talking about NOW?!" you must be wondering, but I assure you, I'm perfectly in my right mind! Fox is filming a movie on the former NS Buffalo line this month, set to hit theaters next year, starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. Anyway, the equipment to be used in filming has been steadily running through Brockway over the past week, where they're interchanged to the WNYP at Machias Jct. Fox has created the fictional line "Allegheny & West Virginia" for this flick, and I must say, I find the paint schemes rather attractive! rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1739015rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1739628rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1739599(The SWP unit here is an actual railroad...used as power, as I'm not sure the SD40 actually works, it was shut down in tow when I saw it) www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=296126&nseq=0www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=295947&nseq=1More: www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1741144The name of the movie is "Unstoppable" and apparently revolves around a true story of a train carrying hazardous chemicals that drifted downgrade un-attended and a yard crew was sent to couple on to and slow the run-away before it crashed near a city. Sounds like "Atomic Train" Only I guess the chase locomotives are successful instead of bumping the runaway over the summit. All units are owned by Canadian Pacific, and are wearing temporary paint for the flick. There's a final set-train coming through sometime today, Which I believe should have another locomotive on it as well, the Runaway freight will utilize the AC4400s 767 and 777, and the Yard Crew will utilize two SD40s, i **think**

This is great, I've been daydreaming for years that they need more railroad movies. Thanks for the heads up.

Quite right, Randy! Those two shots were still down on the W&LE, the ACs and everything were shipped north to the B&P from there.
The third and final train came through tonight, and it did contain another similarly paint SD40, as well as 5 other units! They really pulled out the stops on this one... Not to mention that logo and color scheme is very attractive. I may have to work some decals up! No shots from me tonight, it's darker than dark out there right now...
EDIT: Hey Randy, after reading the account of the real story it puts the actual event in your neck of the woods, i believe!

I hope this movie paints the railroad in a good light instead of a negative one.

Our newspaper reports that in the wye at Emporium they're assembling a 1:1 cardboard replica of the blue SD40 for use in a wreck scene... Reading over the story of 8888 I don't see a wreck, at all... So, mayhaps this will be further and further into the realm of "Loosely based"
Unless its just fudged enough to say it hits a maintainence truck or something at a grade crossing, but I don't see why they'd need a "stunt locomotive" for that

Random Somewhat Related Update:
One of my friends from the St Mary's area called me asking me When PSP went to Brown cars with Blue Keystones. I asked him if he was under a lot of stress but he swore to me he saw a highway car carrier with 3 Brown Crown Vics that had Blue keystones that said "Pennsylvania State Police" in the keystone, oh and "there was a pickup truck with those railroad wheels and 'AWR' or something like that on the door on the same carrier."
So, I can only assume these are for the movie... Kinda disappointed to hear that's what they're representing our cars with, personally I like the White with a brown stripe...easier to hide next to snow banks....

The CSX 8888 ran away when it was pulling out a cut of cars to be placed for an outbound train from the ex COnrail toledo stanley yard. The engineer got off to get a switch--and the throttle was in #8notch, and the engine didn't stop--and he couldn't get back on. It traveled about 70 miles south down the ex NYC/T&OC "Toledo Branch" sub. There was a northbound Col's-Toledo train that cleared up at Hancock siding (Findlay) and was told over the radio by the General Manager in Indianapolis to "DO whatever you have to to catch that cut!" SO, the crew cut off from their train, watched the runaway yard cut run by, and then after the DS quickly threw the switch, they chased it south...they caught it near Blanchard, and were able to put their power in dynamic brake, allowing the cut to slow down just enough through the reverse curves at Kenton (inconviently, there is a Marathon Gas station right in the middle of this reverse curve about 25 feet from the tracks in downtown Kenton. Normal trains go 25 through there, THat train went 32. Anyhow, at the south end of town, the train had slowed down enough that the Trainmaster was able to jump aboard at the road crossing, and shut the throttle off, ending the debacle. It was amazing that the train didn't derail..since they tried a portable derail at Bowling green, tried shooting at the fuel tank cut off switch on the side-sill of the locomotive with Ohio St. Patrol sharpshooters, went across 2 major railroad interlockings and 2 more lightly used railroad lines, AND got through Kenton without derailling into the gas station.
You may ask why I know all this...I was the engineer sitting on a train 10 miles south of Kenton waiting to go north to Toledo that day...I heard it all on the radio...it was surreal.
ANd, I'm sure that THIS movie will make Atomic Train look like an Oscar-worthy effort!

Not to get off subject here, but I grew up by Erie PA, and I remember the PSP had a Hopped up 1971 Satillite as a High Speed Pursuit Car. At the time I was the Manager of a Sinclair gas station, and the HSPC Satillite would pull in for a tank full of premium. The engine had a real Lopy Idle, and would shake. Most of the PSP Furys were cammed up and had 440 big block engines. The exhaust note was a nice "RUMP DE RUMP" and I guess that's what got me into Muscle Cars back then. I had a 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T back then, and I had a few bubble gum machines in my rear view also. LOL

Had a 63 Coronet with a 426 Wedge and Aluminum front end and set up from the factory as a strip car not street use, back when NHRA had Super Stock class I was running 9.8's consistently at Salem, OH; US 131, US 30, then had to sell it when I got divorced in 96 to pay off the bad divorce crap, made me real ill to see it go. Oh...Oh....I see we are both Mopar fiends. I'm on the Dodge Coronet Registry Forum. Now back to trains, sorry guys.

I swung up to Port Allegheny yesterday, not really expecting to see much, but WOW! Did I get a show! They were performing track tests, and I cruised into town in time to catch the two AC44s and a string of cars splitting the crossbucks at 65 mph. A little while after wards a High rail was tested out, and WNYP did some track smoothing maintainence. While waiting in between the action I BSed generally with an officer and Production Company guy who were "locking down" the tracks. At sometime during the day the VP Of WNYP stopped by and chatted to us, along with his police Chief, and then just before I packed it in for the day an older gentleman rode up in a Tahoe and introduced himself as Tony Scott, the "one responsible for this mess you see." Wow! Anywho, production company was adamant on "No Pictures of the Set!" However, I was told if it's just sitting somewhere its all fair game, so, here's the few pictures I was able to get! rrpicturearchives.net/archivethumbs.aspx?id=48572

Well, Stephen, How about if I'm in the movie, going then? Haha, I landed a job as an Extra playing a "Wilkins County" sheriffs deputy, anything beyond that I'm not really supposed to publicly announce, but I will say if you're looking for a career change, join a production company, the food they eat every day kicks major butt.
