i just bought a few older athearn sd9 engines & one of the powered engines has the older type motor in it. i'm thinking of changing it to a newer motor. i seen a motor from a P2K sd9 & it looks like their the same. can anyone confirm this?

Yes, the motors between older P2K locomotives and Athearns are pretty much interchangeable. However, some locomotives use a smaller shaft diameter than the Athearns, so the flywheels may not be interchangeable.

You can always just get a current Athearn motor. Another good option would be to get one of the repowering kits from Helix Humpers or others. Most of the full kits include flywheels and any bushings needed to match shaft sizes.

the p2k motors have the flywheels on them & include the drive shafts & the gear to fit in the trucks. I'm pretty sure they will work, just trying to get a second opinion before i buy them.
