Ex-SOU GP35 with AAR trucks. Kato model, Cannon high hood, Stewart AAR sideframes (fit perfectly on the Kato trucks with no modifications... go figure). I'm surprised Athearn hasn't offered these in HH yet like they did with the SD45's and SD40-2's. SOU and N&W had sizeable fleets of them, and they were all pawned off to shortlines in the 90's. W&LE has them in their own paint, NS black, and even a couple still in SOU tuxedo. Prototype:

Were the trucks new on those units or traded in with ALCO's? Traded in ALCo RS-2's.

Rudy,
Did the Stewart AAR trucks come with the Brake Cylinders or do you have to buy them separate?

Here is a GP35 in the Tuxedo. One of the few Southern GP35's with Bloomberg Trucks.

Rudy, Did the Stewart AAR trucks come with the Brake Cylinders or do you have to buy them separate? Matt If I recall correctly, the brake cylinders were separate parts from Stewart. I did this engine so long ago that it was still Stewart, before Bowser took them over. EDIT: From Bob Harpe's clinic on building one of these: "The part numbers you need are: PN0176 for the sideframes and PN0191 for the brake cylinders." Thanks for the comments guys.... as for the SOU vs. NS paint discussion, all I'm going to say is that this was one of my first superdetailed and painted models, so I wasn't feeling particularly ambitious with the paint job... I didn't want to screw it up by getting a stripe off or something. That was basically my only criteria for painting it NS versus painting it SOU. Looking back, I wish I had painted it in SOU, then I could run it as either an SOU unit or an early NS unit. But I don't have the heart to strip my own paint job off of it, especially when it came out so good!
