Any hints for bending the wire you used on the cab roof Steve? two flat pliers... ...I don't know for what the pipe is, saw it on a picture of #711 and built it

I hate masking those handrail/walkway assemblies, they are a pain to mask... ready for primer...

I've never seen an N scale diesel taken apart, interesting how the handrails and tread plate are molded together like that. That has to be especially bad when the stanchions and tread plate are different colours! the newer models have the sill and thread plate as one piece and the handrails separate - much easier to handle and paint... that's what I thought and so it ends at the horn... thanks

paint is on (primer, YouPee yellow and Harbor Mist gray), next is a layer of gloss clear cote and then it's time for the decals...

That is superb work, Steve! I am always amazed at any detail and paint work done in N scale and you have definitely got the touch!

That pipe on the cab roof would be the air line for the horn. Why it would be run on the roof like that, I don't know. You usually see that when the horn or bell has been relocated, the air line runs from the original location to the new location. The "pipe" on the cab going around the air conditioner is an electrical conduit. It carries the wires for the Air Conditioner power. It doesn't have all the 90 degree bends that are in the model. It comes up through the roof in the electrical cabinet just behind the rear of the cab, goes straight forward to just past the A/C and then makes about a 30 degree bend and then goes down through the roof to the left of the horns in the number board extension of the cab. The air pipe for the horns comes up through the section between the 2 middle windows at the front of the cab. The horn bracket is mounted right on top of the horn air line. The GP-40s and GP-38s are done the same way. I am on my laptop at the moment and do not have any pictures of the roof to post. Will try to do so at a later date. I installed a bunch of them while I was in the locomotive shop. Richard looking at MP 242 while working for the FEC Rwy

Awesome work, Steve! I intend to model the FEC and make some power. Not that many FEC locos out there in HO Scale.

Great job Steve. I'm interested in the cab roof also. I'm glad you asked about it. I made a few of these in HO and never put anything around the air conditioner. I'll have to go back and add some of the piping that you did. I looks amazing! I'm looking forward to seeing some finished photos of yours!

Great job! Whats the part # of your ditch lights? these are Sunrise Enterprise parts (company is unfortunately no longer in business for these parts - only some etched parts and signals left) the whole project is on hold, I did receive crappy decals from MicroScale and they are out of stock for new ones - I will probably end up with printing my own decals to finally finish this job...

Sorry it took so long to reply. I don't get notifications of replys to messages. Here are some pics of 413 and 416 roofs. they are the same as the SD-40 roofs. I know, I installed a lot of the SD-40 air conditioners. I hope it works. My first time trying to post pics. Richard looking at MP 242 while working for the FEC Rwy I have other pics at s144.photobucket.com/albums/r161/fire5506/FEC%20locos/ The "pipe" on the cab going around the air conditioner is an electrical conduit.
