After four long months, I finally finished my model of IAIS M420R 801 tonight. This was one of the more challenging projects I've tackled in a while - maybe ever - and I'm definitely looking forward to getting busy on the layout for a literal change of scenery. A few pics of the 801 are below, with the whole story at www.iaisrailfans.org/gallery/IAIS-801-M420R if anyone's interested. Overall view: Railmaster speaker install, with traces of 801's Providence and Worcester paint showing through on the radiator grill, as per the prototype. Model has a LokSound #397-7240X with sounds recorded from the actual IAIS M420Rs. More P&W heritage showing through on the horn.

Thank you all for the very kind words. With this project behind me, I'm planning to step away from the workbench for a year or so, get started with operating sessions on the layout, and get busy on my first ever bridges and scenery. I'm really looking forward to trying something new.

Joe, would it be possible to get a copy of the M420R sounds, I got an M420R on ebay, and would like to put a sound system in it.
You did an amazing job on your unit too.

Looks great. I miss seeing and hearing the M420R's when P&W used them in RI.

I was looking at picture on rrpicturearchive and found that 801 and 802 we scrapped this past summer. What a sad ending for a pair of neat locomotives.
Thank goodness for Joe's awesome model to help remind us of 801.

Having done four myself, I know the amount of work that goes into those things ! Looks great. Interesting idea on how you doubled up the etched stanchions to make them look thicker ! - never thought of that.
Mark.
