This is an old Athearn BB U30B with the rear end of a U33C. Yes, I know it has a wide hood, but it doesn't look all that bad on the old Athearn engines. She still needs decals on the other side. Might repower with an old Proto FA2 drive that I have laying around.

First let me say, your engine looks good. Add a little dust and grime... who cares if the hood is a little wide, it'll be a fine piece. 2nd, it's good to see a local on this board. I live in the southern end of Lehigh county. ;D

Look very nice Rudy, the wide hood does not really show much on thoes older GE units. Agreed. The old Athearn U-boats don't look that bad compared to the wide-bodied EMD's.

IMHO, The quality of your work makes the hood width a non-issue. Excellent Job!

2nd, it's good to see a local on this board. I live in the southern end of Lehigh county. ;D Haha. Hate to break it to you, but I'm actually a New Jersey native. I'm currently living in Bethlehem at Moravian College for 9 months out of the year and living with a couple of friends during the summer so I can keep my job (and see all the NS trains in south Bethlehem). So even though I live in the Lehigh Valley year-round, my legal residence is still in northern Jersey. I'll have a few more pictures of this GE up soon. It's all done other than the handrails, and the dullcote should be almost dry by now. I'll get them up after work today. Thanks everyone for the compliments thus far!!!

Completed pictures. My dad finished the handrails for me while I was away for the weekend (have to give credit where credit is due ).

I built a lot of those back in the 80s and 90s for a friend of mine.
