Have a bunch of HH units I model the fall of 1979
I know the atsf and sp had ac cab air conditioners
Would it be plausible for a freelance road based of the Southern and N&W to have equipped its unit's with ac
Trying to determine my modeling direction
Let me have your thoughts as I'm in the process of deciding major class 1 western or major class 1 eastern

Very plausible, and the most likely spin-off roads to have high short hood units would be in the east, W&LE to name just one.

Cab air conditioning did not become common on locomotives of eastern railroads until the late 1980's and early 1990's. It became something of a standard on the new power of that era and on rebuilds, and railroads during that period were in no hurry to retrofit older units.

Vince, I first remember A/C units on SP power coming into the ICG's South Yard in Memphis around 1980, but not earlier, although it's certainly possible they had them in the late 1970's.

Thanks Robert main thing is like you stated I was planning on a few units with ac as our unions requested per crew's I'll have to see how the model looks before gluing them on As I'm going high hood have a couple of modules that are close to getting rail next week or two Would you prefer me to post in locomotive sections or in the high hood section |
