Has anyone ever tried modeling Norfolk & Western's/Norfolk Southern's GE C36-7's that have Extended Range Dynamic Brakes. They have that blister on the long hood just behind the cab that makes them look very brutish, like the ALCo C636. They had roadnumbers 8531-8542.

Smokey Valley used to make this part. I had done this awhile back and sold the unit on the bay. It was a very nice looking unit but did not fit my era. I took an Atlas C30-7 and cut to fit the part and added a few extra screens on the rear to replicate the C36-7.

Matt, Depends on how accurate you want to get. Smokey Valley used to make the extended-range dynamic box. I haven't seen these in a while so I don't know if they can still be had. I believe Hi-Tech may have also made this part. Unfortunately the dynamic box is the easy part. If you want a truly accurate model you'll need to modify the radiator wings. They are thicker than the standard C30-7 wings. Also, all N&W/NS 6-axle GEs came with triple clasp truck. These require quite a bit of surgery which is made even more difficult by the fact that Atlas cast their trucks out of delrin. Delrin is nearly impossible to glue satisfactorily. I believe the intake grilles under the radiator wings are also different. Been a while since I looked at doing one. Kinda gave up and set it aside for later after finding all the differences.
