Hi all;hope you are well.Looking to convert my Proto RS11 Central Vermont in a quick and easy way to the units equipped with short hood dynamic brakes.Heres what I need:
Remove the hood top vents and dynamic brake grids
Add louvers to the right side of the short hood
Fabricate that distinctive round exhaust stack
Deal with the smaller fuel tank on the earlier units
Add the lightweight sideframes
The only real sticking point for me now is;how do I make the d/b grids on the short hood? having the cash around to grab a Rapido, model figured I'd toss this around see where it lands.
Any comments would as usual be welcome. Thank you, Anthony

Hi Not sure if this will help much as this is a smidge smaller than yours. I cheated a little is several places. The dynamic brake louvres in the short hood are simply a set of doors from an RS-3, not correct, but worked for me. Archer decals would be a better choice today. The dynamic break outlets on the roof are correct. They are two small boxes set into the hood top with three large louvres that blow open when the DB's are activated. A lot of CN's lightweight RS-18s had this version so there are lots of photos out there. The CN ones had a set of bars sticking up which I suspect were there to protect the louvres when they were in the open position. I fudged the trucks by modifying the type Bs, also not correct, but close enough. The fuel tank is the Atlas RS-3 tank which has the right sized boxy tank but the wrong air reservoirs. I should have changed these, but chose not too at the time. Overall it looks about right, so I'm happy with it. Cheers Steve NZ
