Hi all-at it again here trying to build the correct sills and fuel tanks for the C 424 Early phase as well as the later C 425 with batteries under the sill.In looking at a reference book,it appears the Canadian 424s and the later US 425s share that split tank with a center fuel fill. Not sure but I think I read they may be different capacities-2600 gals vs. 2000 . Can I use the Atlas split canadian tank? Taking a second peek it seems the Canadian may be 2 different length pieces. Someone needs to step up and run the correct phases of these alcos-I already tore up 3 C 420 sills attempting to splice them... Thanks for any help you can send my way!

Hi
The fuel tanks on Alco Centuries came in various sizes and I don't think they were necessarily phase specific. The length of the bulbous sides of the tanks depended on the size fuel tank specified by the railroad. Some were built without these at all. If you want to build a specific unit, check out photos. There are good 'side-on' photos out there that will enable you to proportion the length of the bulbous sections on the tanks. I model Alco's in N-scale and have several versions of tanks on C-424/425 from full length to none at all. Some railroads that purchased secondhand Alco's ended up with C-424s with different sized tanks.
What prototype are you building?
