So.......what do you do with your Hi-Tech Details SD39 sides now that Athearn has covered this diesel pretty well? You build Geep 39’s with them. The fact that nobody makes a straight GP39 makes it all worth it. First you need to remove a scale 1’6” from the sides. Below is what I have found to be the best spots to cut. Then assemble as you normally would. I used parts from my vast scrap box witch basically includes most major manufacturers. Athearn, Kato, P2K, Atlas and of course Cannon & Co. are all there. The frame and walkways ways are Athearn blue box. It’s a cheap & easy setup. I cut the whole body off of a BB GP40-2. Then since I had a broken P2K SD45 walkway I cut the steps/pilots from the SD45 walkway and mated them to the ends of the 40-2 walk way sills. That way I had the correct pilots and steps for this diesel.

This is unit will be a C&O 39. The sub base nose and cab are Kato. The C&C mail slot doors are for -2 units so I had to customize the conductors side to be the shorter type. The nose is cut in for the handbrake and an Atlas SD35 handbrake piece is fitted behind the opening. The dynamic brake section is also an Atlas piece as well as the fans. The dust bin and turbo hatch are P2K SD45 pieces. Here is a better shot of the front details. All of these pieces have somehow worked well together lol. Building the walkway certainly takes some time also. Pssst.....I’ve got the non dynamic Bay Line unit in the works too 😊

This is impressive. Combining all these parts and pieces from all these manufacturers and having them look this good speaks well of your skills. Looking forward to completion.
