Dan, I tried to move your post to Help Topics and accidently deleted it. This question should also be at Help Topics down in the Projects Catagory.
I only paint black with enamel, N&W, NKP, etc, so I cannot answer your question.

Microscale make a product called Micromask which is a liquid masking agent. It is a water clean up mask, and Microscale recommend it is only used with petroleum based paint, and not with paints containing water. I have used it, and it does work as advertised, however I find it needs too many coats to work effectively.
Humbrol make a latex mask, which works about as well as all the rest of Humbrol products. Enough coverage is provided by one coat, the problem being getting it where you need it, and only where you need it. I have been told by the Hornby rep that it can be thinned with cellulose thinners, which is commonly available in England, but not so here.
In the art world there seems to be many liquid latex masking agents, and I know some people who have used and who have recommended them. As a result, I have one to try next time I need a masking agent.

Before I can give an answer, what are you attempting to mask?
