Hi all, I thought I might share this project as it is ongoing and was helped along in a major fashion by another DD member. This is my Kato RDC-1, which was stripped and detailed by me, and painted by another DD member. Details parts came from MBE, and include the headlight fixture on the roof, horns and RDC plow which isn't visible in the photo. I got a little too rambunctious with the stripping method, which was alcohol, aided by a Dremel, and did a good job at warping and mis-shaping things. You can see evidence of this around the door frames, which will be covered by a diaphragam. I plan to use fibreoptics to get the light from the Digitrax light boards up into the MBE fixtures, but I have never tried something like this before. I am a bit afraid that I may not have securely fixed these headlight fixtures to the carbody and I am willing to bet that these are going to come off. If anyone has a suggestion on that topic, please let me know! This model started as CN D-200, and when it was passed on to VIA, it was numbered 6100. It spent some time in Nova Scotia working between Halifax and Sydney, so it made perfect sense to me to give it the number 6100 and run it in lieu of bus service on my Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia proto-lance.
