There's a great article in RMC, in 1983? IIRC, where an Athearn 40' boxcar will yield kitbash material for an excellent model of the NYC/PC/CR transfer caboose.
Does anyone remember that issue? I'll see if I can google it...
Eric Brooman has a UP CA11 kitbash in the June 1983 issue...

Ah! Found it! (I was off by a decade) It's an awesome article about how to scratchbuild a PC N9E transfer caboose by Tom Busack, RMC June 1974. He started with an Athearn 40' grain loading boxcar.
