Well, my MR club, the Mt Hood Model Engineers recently had its Atlas Yellow Box S4 "discard" both its drive shafts. It seemed a simple thing to acquire new drive shafts and be fine, however, after 6 months of searching, I found nothing. So I then opted to replace the old drive line with A-Line parts. Ratz, the old drive line couplings would not come off the motor no matter what. Hmmm, I then opted to replace the motor with an on hand Micro Mark puppy which is a nice motor. The motor fit nicely and accepted the A-Line driveshaft with no issues. AAAAA, problem, the motor is taller than the removed Atlas motor and hence, the hood no longer fit. Hmmmm, well a cheap AHM GP18 shell to the rescue and it gave up its hood for a one of a kind rebuild. Well, the railroads did some stranger rebuilds, why not the Mt Hood RR. Sooo, after some work and fitting plus modification, the shell fit almost perfectly creating an S4RE for the Mt Hood. She runs superbly and was a fun project.
