With the SD40 finished, I can now concentrate on the next project. As I have stated, I am working on the READING GP30. I hope to have some photos up on my web site by Sunday of where this project is at. I am also working on a CONRAIL GP38 #7776 and I have picked up again on building an EL SDP45. The SDP45 will be in EL bicentennial colors with CR paint outs.
I split my work time up into the following time frames. The main project is the GP30. It gets the most attention. Wednesday I work on the GP38 and Thursday I work on the SDP45.
The GP30 will use a Kato GP35 frame, trucks and drive. The shell naturally will be from P2K. I currently have the frame all cut and a P2K small fuel tank installed. I have also finished building the frame fish belly. I only need to add the frame rail and build up the fish belly frame gussets. From there I will detail the fuel tank and build the draft gear boxes.
The GP38 has the frame all completed and last night I started detailing the fuel tank.
The SDP45 has not been started yet. I would start it tonight, but since it is my five year anniversary, I do not think my wife wants me to sit in the basement all night .
I actually have yet another project inadvertently going. It started out as an experiment and has turned into a full fledged project. It is a Penn Central SD40. I made a mistake on the placement of the air filters so I shelved the project for a while. I just need to pull them off, move them back a tad and re-plumb them. So that is another project, but I do not work on it much or rather at all right now. I'll pick up on it again when I finish the GP30. This SD40 is a full blown detail project with all the traction motor cables and whatever other plumbing I can fit under there. It also sports my custom cut fuel tank with full bottom contours, top sheet and breather blocks. The fuel tank is really nice looking.
