While I'm at school and unable to finish the bulkhead flat, I decided to pick up one more project for something to do (as if I need it.) I've wanted to build those interesting TTX 89' flats with the truck cutouts (you've seen them) for years, and just found some plans for them the other day. These cars: They are in PTTX and XTTX reporting marks, though I more commonly see them in PTTX, and usually carry pipe and rail, but at other times steel shapes or disabled railcars. This is the Freightcar America version with the plain deck and not the NSC ones with the nailable deck, but both are pretty common. I am designing these to be built in brass, and hope (after working out all the kinks) to offer them for sale as kits. Here is my progress so far: Thanks for looking! I'm not going to promise anything for a finish date, but if you'd happen to be interested in any, just let me know if you don't mind so I can get a little bit of an idea how many to eventually make. Also, if you have any tips for designing this sort of thing, don't hold back

Will these be fold and solder kits?

Yes they will. I am not sure if all the gussets and stake pockets on the side will easily be solderable, only because there are so many so close to each other. Maybe with a good resistance soldering unit. Otherwise those might need to be glued.

Neato. Too modern for me but probably a fun kit
