Alternate title: be the madness you wish to see in the world When Atlas brought out the Trainman short bulkhead flatcars, I had to pick one up. They are really cool looking, and a nice generic modern car. Generic is the key word. Recently I got the urge to weather the car, so I looked up its prototype. What I found was a car that was close to the model, but just different enough to be unique. So, I decided I would rebuild the model to look more like that. So much for generic. Inspired by builds here, I sanded off some incorrect details, added new styrene sides to the bulkheads, and added grabs with their requisite gaggle of bolts. Some semi-scale 36" wheels look really nice in comparison to the stock fat 33s. I just happened to have some red paint on hand that matches the car perfectly, so that will be happening soon. Here is the car as it sits, ready for paint touchups: I will need just a few decals to put on the bulkhead sides- lift info and NSC builders logos. Both are mostly white, so I am just wondering if there is a fellow DD-er with an Alps printer who could help me out?

Highball has the NSC logos and tons of dim data on F-312 and F-313 sets...

Well, that should do it then. I was pretty certain those "lift here" decals should exist on all kinds of sets, the question is just which ones they are.
Edit:those square air filters they have may be handy also...

Thanks! I keep thinking of your builds as I work on this, as they are a great inspiration.

I have a set on order from Highball, hopefully I'll get it this weekend so I can do the paint and decals both, but we'll see.

It lives! Now I really need to get a photo module put together so I can really show it off when it's done!
