Stephane~
I like the handrails on top of the oil tanks, I wish that the tanks at my work had some.

Stephane~ I like the handrails on top of the oil tanks, I wish that the tanks at my work had some. PVRR2647 Yeah, safety first I wanted to do mines just as those of Valero's refinery in St-Romuald, Qc. They're very noticeable going down highway 20, 10-15k eastern of Quebec city. Of course, Walther's tanks are downsized (fortunately as they would occupy too much space on my tiny 7x9' home layout), but they shall look similar. Now I am waiting for brass rods that I've ordered online. Udisco in Montreal where I usually buy them are back order on the latter these days. I also want to complete the second tank as well. NOTE: Just noticed that my status has been promoted to "Engineer" on this Forum. Thanks folks !! Stephane

Stephane~
Thank yourself for participating in the forums, the more you post and participate the more promotions you get. With all the models you build in brass your name should be "brassstef70" instead. Keep up the good work and share as often as you can.

Well in fact I like to work with different kinds of metals: brass-steel-die-cast metal-even stainless. I do not like plastic much. Given the time spent doing these projects, I rather have them last. I understant plastic is much easier to work with, and modern resin compounds now allows for very detailed parts. But it's still prone to break and I hate this. And the feeling to have a heavy model, to me is just not the same (I do have die cast construction models in 1:50 scale too). Here's one project among many that I did over the last 3-4 years (click for the link): Chain pullersBut Ironstef is another story not even related with the hobby; back while I was even more active (fitness wise) than now. Let me know if you need Mammoet decals for that van Stephane... I usually do my own templates in clear water slide decal film sheets, but doing "Mammoet jobs" are trickier as I have no ways (as most modelers) of doing the white decals. I tried the white water slide film but it does a sh&%%y job as it cracks. I usually end up priming in white, then adding the decals (white being clear) by contrast, then clear using the airbrush. But if you have access to such a printer, I sure would appreciate to have the opportunity to have thse made just as the Microscales. I know those are not free and would be willing to buy. By the way, I did the second Valero tank handrails last night, then finished painting a PD3000 NAHX brass hopper. I usually do several projects at times, no wonder why I'm slow... S.

Stephane~
I do appreciate the die cast stuff, mostly because my deceased Grandfather was a heavy equipment operator. He used to take me out to some of the jobsites to let me "operate" some of the equipment when is was little. My son loves the die cast stuff too, but he will have to wait until he is a little older though. He currently has a ton of Bruder plastic stuff, to tide him over for a while.
Very nice work on the your other projects. I especially like the reactor vessel, it looks like a breeder reactor. The zerk fittings are a nice touch.

So here I am 15 months later. I have been pushing this one far off my work bench, but just going back to it recently. I love soldering brass and this one is a good practice for some more projects I intend to do next winter. Here is the progress so far. Now, I need to find an "X" in the same font for completing the decals, along with a few more custom decals for the rear ends. Next step will be the white paint (rooftop), hand paint some details, add the grab irons, glue the pilots in place (soldering is not an option as it requires a torch due to the size of that part, so it would ruin the paint job, and dismantle the pilots steps (I know, I tried it!!!). Summer is slow for hobby projects, but I am expecting completion for late August, once I received missing parts and so, as I am also doing major works on my home. Hope you enjoy: Pictures of the prototype can be found here: MAMX 40003

She's fresh out of the paint shop, and shall be close to the prototype, except for one detail which I did not want to sacrifice from the roof as I liked that bare brass caboose. It could as well be moved under the "Cheap rebuilt" section as I initially paid that caboose (as in very first picture of this post) body 20$... I took a few pictures on my home layout, but I have been invited for a operation session tomorrow and will take more pics. Hope you enjoy. Now I can say: PROJECT COMPLETED Stephane
