GTW 6201's chassis is done and painted. Thanks again for DTINUT's help in prepping the chassis for the Atlas tank skin. Almost done the pilots, then the end handrails...home stretch!

The 'sewer pickle' (love it!) has the roof details added; just needs the roof touched up... Which details parts did you use on the roof? In particular, which cooling coils are they? Can you take me a roof shot?

Details West CC-318. I'll take a shot in good light soon. Its painted black now so it's probably not going to photo well.

While we're bringing up the sewer pickle, does anyone know of a good replacement stirrup for the F's? Something nice and thin like the prototype. The Atlas are too thick and chunky...

Cal-Scale 190-448 or spares from a Intermountain kit.

All done (except on further review I forgot the windshield wipers....D'oh!) Anyway, ALMOST done! Recap....heavily 'lipsticked' pig of the Atlas (concor actually) Roco variety...BION, this ol' relic matches the speed of its younger more distinguished brother GP38 in behind it...

In honour of keeping the DD alive for Randy's memory, I'm going to do my best to perpetuate the VR thread... I found this car at a swap meet, beat up and forlorn, for $1...yes folks, $0.75 USD to be exact. It already had wire grabs and stirrups...the couplers and trucks were gone though. I nursed her back to health, added tacks boards, a brake wheel, removed the roofwalk, touched up the paint, added Rapido roller brng retrofit trucks and couplers. I took some wetsanding to the CNW markings, added ACI and Cots, and some weathings. Maybe $15 invested...

Excellent find, I love seeing what cheap goodies I can find at shows. Lots of hidden gems.
Turned out nice. What brand car is it? Kind if looks like Athearn? Can't beat it for a buck!

I'd say that's a Front Range car.

Alright! It's great to see some action on the DD as of late! So I'm going to add to it. Here's my latest find. I would categorize this as another Velvetine Rabbit, but it was by no means cheap. In CDN dollars, it eclipsed the $100 mark but from the ebay photos, and the "Proto Power West" listing, I knew she'd be a gem. She does have a can motor and flywheels, just as I suspected with the PPW label. The gawd aweful scheme is going to meet the ovencleaner and eventually become one of the Conrail C32-8s in original blue. She's got SV handrails and stanchions, and SV sideframes as well. Someone had skills, and it should be a quick project! These raw RPP C32-8 shells have been fetching $50+ on ebay these days, so I figure if I can resurrect her, she'll be worth the outlay.

Cal-Scale 190-448 or spares from a Intermountain kit. The Cal-scale parts are like 8 bucks for 6, and look a bit clunky. Wouldn't something like those be doable as a brass etching?

Nice find, those RPP shells do make nice builds if you put some effort into them. Ive got a few still in various states of finished (not C-32-8 though). Just can't bear to part with them.
Love the C-32-8's, they just look rugged and tough. Can't wait to see more on this one.

Recap....heavily 'lipsticked' pig of the Atlas (concor actually) Roco variety...BION, this ol' relic matches the speed of its younger more distinguished brother GP38 in behind it... Sean- You have done a fantastic job on these! I was looking at doing similar changes for a number of D&RGW GP40 locos, this thread told me "go for it"! One question: in reworking the fuel tanks and air reservoirs, it looks like you removed the method Atlas/Roco used for mounting the shell to the chassis (namely, the lug through the side of the reservoir). How did you wind up securing the shell to the chassis after your modifications? Thanks for sharing, and the inspiration!

Hey Glenn, yes the mounting lugs are gone. There's some styrene strips on the backside of the air tanks that work to create an interference fit against the frame. Its enough that the shell doesn't walk back and forth, but if you pick it up by the shell it will easily separate, so there's no fear of the dreaded "will it hold?" scenario.
Glenn, how be I send you a pair of resin sideframe retroclips for your DRGW project? No charge, just shoot me an IM.

DRGW (and other projects) temporarily on hold (hopefully very temporarily) , found out we have four more out of town guests coming for a wedding this summer. Need to help my mother get her house ready...
