Here is my latest project. Started as Santa Fe GP-9 Phase III, stripped, repainted and decaled as New Haven #1222. I was a bit afraid about painting the handrails, however, i tried water based lexan colors this time and it worked well, i can twist the handrails without paint peeling off...

You have to placate the New Haven Historical and Technical Society, and add the water tank on the walkway behind the cab on the fireman's side. I'm just joking.
My uncle worked on the New Haven and always liked the 1200 class best. I like it.

Looks great. Spike, I think the tanks were on both sides on the long hood.

Sharp looking unit Michael! You did a nice job on this engine. Are you going to weather or leave it fresh from the paint booth?

Hello Michael, I don't mean to hijack your post, but the banner pic has got my mind swirling on a project... I've done some homework on these cool GPs and wonder if you could spare a pair of NH decals for the sides of the carbody? I'm going to try to emulate this using AK chipping fluid, and a liberal dose of weathering effort.....

Sean, hat will be a cool project. I remember seeing them looking just like this at Northrup Ave. yard in Providence. Also Amtrak ex-NH RS-3's in the same condition.

Very nice looking GP-9 #1222 and thanks for posting the photo! I have heard that Tamiya paint will work well holding onto handrails but don't have the experience yet. They were called "Cadillacs" By the engineers because they rode so smoothly!

I forgot about the Cadillac nickname. My uncle once told about a heavy Maybrook freight, and how well these held the rail, when compared to the earlier FA/FB sets. He also wished that they could have gotten all GP9s, instead of splitting the order with the DL701, and "Fairbanks Mess".

From what I've seen they were paired mostly with RS-11's in freight traffic after they got downgraded from passenger service.
