Robert - It's good to see your cabeese. I like the steps on the Southern; they look very similar to what i need for my caboose project. Is the L&N a kit or scratch? They sure look good!

Chuck, the steps were cast resin, but that Smokey Mountain kit was discontinued a few years ago. I think I have one or two extra steps in a spare parts box in the closet. If you like, you are welcome to use them as a pattern. Just shoot me a Private Message with your mailing address.
The L&N cab is a kit (forgot the name, but I will look it up for you) and the last time I ordered some NC&StL cabs from the maker, both L&N cabs, the Little Woodie and the Big Woodie, were still available.

Robert, that has got to be the nicest, cleanest build of that Smokey Mountain Southern cab I've seen to date...the IC and L&N hacks look and are going to look great too...seems like I remember the L&N HS carrying the Little and Big Woodies in their "company store", but I don't see them anymore and dang if I can remember the maker either. Speaking of L&N cabs I'm hoping that Gary Wright will eventually (hint hint) do the L&N/Family Lines FGE cabs ( the ones that looked like transfer cabs but were really road hacks) and the former Monon ones with the funky quasi-bay window cupolas I had one of the bay window L&N cabs that he offers and is up for retirement, but I got an offer I couldn't refuse on it from a friend and it now has another home, LOL. Thanks for the kind critique, Chuck.
Michael George of Blue Ridge Historics, P. O. Box 246, Apison, TN 37302, Phone (423)479-9713 offers the L&N "Woodies" in both "Big" and "Little", as well as an NC&StL outside-braced steel underframe model. I have heard he also has some O scale kits, but not sure what prototypes. These are all flat resin kits and will require a lot of work and patience in order to square up the assembly. The components are very thin and unforgiving. While I am sure Mr. George would replace some stuff, not sure he could keep up with me! I screwed up the tool box early on, so I just scratchbuilt one from styrene rather than use up all my credits with Blue Ridge!!

I remember Blue Ridge Historics; they also did a General Steel Castings prototype pulpwood car as used by ACL, C&O, et al...I bought 3 or 4 of them but finally gave up after trying 2...I never could get the resin frame square where both trucks would sit on the rails flat. Still have an unassembled one stashed in the closet, but of course now you can get the Atlas GSC pulpwood and detail it with a lot less frustration. I have good luck with Railyard Models and Wrighttrak resin models, but no so much with these, which was a shame because they are detailed very nicely. Chuck Y.
