I picked up one of the new Tangent scale models of the GATX 8000 gal acid cars, and all I can say is WOW! Its the nicest example I've seen of a framed tank car. I'm afraid to weather it up!

I'm planning on getting a few of that scheme because they look so nice. They would look even better weathered, though!

Phosphoric acid is used in soft drinks and used to remove rust. It's a very useful chemical. Regards, Bobby Yes it is, I work with it almost every day. I don't like pipetting it...its quite viscous (like a syrup almost) which makes pipetting tough. How much was that car Sean? I wonder if I could pick up three or four on the cheap, paint them flat black, stencil them and use them to represent something like these? www.theboykos.com/nbrr/blogpix/IMG_7745.JPG

I've got that same car at home actually with that project in mind. I'll keep my eyes open...maybe I'll strike a deal in Springfield next month

Nice, what era do they fit into?

The white ones were still in service in a photo dated 1979. Tangent claims they were til the 90s. The dim data says rebuilt 1971.
I found a pic of an all black one in 1985, but the wheels were well rusty.

The photo I linked above is circa 2007. That mill closed back in 2002 and those 8000gal cars were used in captive service several times per week up until then. Last time I saw them was back in 2010, but they may still be there for all I know.
