You have a mix between a SD80MAC and a SD90MAC. You have SD80MAC numberboards and you have the rear sand box of an SD90. That's going to look cool when you are done though.

That's cool that you noticed that stuff. Other things are, that it will not have the side tank fuel gauges like the UP's had. I might had a box on the bottom of the walkways above the tank top gauges where a digital gauge would go. There will be no window visors but will have the rear view mirrors and the small one on the engineers side so to see up front. Some stuff is based off of what the CR 80macs were configed.

SD80MAC's are one of my favorite engines so I know the differences between them and a SD90MAC. I think it is pretty cool that you are combining features of both though. Can't wait to see it finished!

The most visible difference between the SD80mac and the SD90mac is the sand box on the rear,SD80mac has the low sand box and the SD90mac has the full height one...........It just happened to be that the railroads that purchased the models wanted them with the low and high number boards that way,but looking at the SD90mac's produced they are all built the same...as is the SD80mac's for the Conrail............

I don't believe that the placement of the number boards and/or headlights has anything to do with whether the loco is an SD-80 or SD-90. This is usually a choice the railroad makes when ordering their locos. Conrail's SD-80MAC's rear end was different from any other's. Or amI mistaken in I disagreeumption? That is not what makes them a SD80 or a SD90 but those are the external spotting features. Only Conrail originally ordered SD80MAC's so that is why they are all the same externally. I think only UP and Cp ordered SD90's originally, but all the SD90's that I have seen look the same with the exception of the H's.
