You really captured the look of fresh wheels, bravo! I was thinking the same thing. I love the raw metal and straight rust stripes on the wheels and the little UPC decals. Right on the money.

I was hoping to hear from you on this cylindrical photon reflector. I agree, gloss coating was weird for me. BTW...I hope you have something new on the bench! You really captured the look of fresh wheels, bravo! I was thinking the same thing. I love the raw metal and straight rust stripes on the wheels and the little UPC decals. Right on the money. Thank you Ryan! As I painted those wheels I had my reservations as to how close they looked but once on the model they came together. Luckily I have a couple of proto photos to go by.

The car looks great. Amazing job on the fresh wheels!
What colors did you use on the wheels? And, how did you make the UPC labels?
Nice work!

The car looks great. Amazing job on the fresh wheels! What colors did you use on the wheels? And, how did you make the UPC labels? Nice work! Thank you Michael! Here's a breakdown of the wheel process. I started by washing thoroughly, drying and then roughing up with 800 grit sandpaper. Then I used Micro Mask to mask the tread and needle bearings. Once that had dried I Dullcoated them. The first paint to go on was gray acrylic thinned to the consistency of milk and applied in several layers to build opacity. Once this base color dried I used a water based oil (Raw Sienna) and brushed it on in the pattern I wanted. While that was still wet I lightly dusted a weathering powder on that was the appropriate color of the rust I was attempting to duplicate. Then, I blew off the excess and used a dampened toothpick to clean off the excess powder in the raw metal streak areas. Once this dried completely I Dullcoated again. The final step was cutting very small "upc stickers" out of extra white decal I had and affixing those to the wheelfaces. Although it is difficult at best to see in the pics, I also took a small brush and thinned white acrylic and attempted to replicate the chalk scribblings I see on new wheels. Then a final Dullcoat. Wow, need some sunglasses to look at that car. Nice job! Thanks Mike!
