Hi, Here are some in process pictures of the NC gp7 I'm building. It's a bachmann Gp7. I bought the shell off HOInterchange and the drive came from eBay. I converted it to switcher trucks using bachmann s2 trucks and adding bolsters off of an old set of blomberg trucks I had.. I had to mill the frame out as the switcher trucks are wider. I shaved the sides of the tanks to give the illusion of an 800 gallon tank. I've added lift rings, ladders, mu hoses and have drilled holes for stands. I'm working on canon fans. I'm installing a digitrax SDXH166d decoder in it due to it having 6 function outputs which I need for the lights.. I would prefer a tsunami, but cost and outputs were a deciding factor, although I'm not happy with the preloaded GP10 scheme in the decoder.. When done it will be weathered and be a more correct NC gp than the Atlas Classic next to it.. I'm new at this and am learning, so it's not as detailed a build as some on here... Thanks for looking!! Lookin' Good, Stuart, Lookin' REAL Good!! The NC is one of my favorites, for sure! And is that a Tennessee Central Alco poking its nose around the NC Geep??

Robert, thank you! I am impressed with your modeling skills and have seen pictures of your NC gp build.. I wish you would post them again.. I had originally wanted to build an NC gp because I couldn't find an Atlas version. Every time one came on eBay, I didn't have the money or it was bid up more than I thought it was worth.. As you can see, I finally bought one... But I'm still building another.. I wanted to see if I could build one with switcher trucks...
Yes that is an Atlas RS36.. That is a recent purchase. It was listed on eBay with a buy it now price I couldn't pass up.. I roughly model Western Ky railroads.. Mainly, IC, NC&StL, L&N, TCRy and the Cadiz RR.
My ICG gp30 and gp35 are in the Emd 60's forum.
Thanks,
Stuart

Hi everyone, Just an update. I've about got the fans where I'm happy with them.. I test fit the grabs and put the handrails back on. I've been playing with the chassis, too.. I went with a digitrax SDXH166D because it had 6 outputs.. It looks like the NC&StL had a gyralite, emergency light and headlights on both ends.. So 6 outputs.. As for the sound, I'm not happy with the prime mover volume.. So before I give up on it, I'm going to get a better speaker.. Bachmann has a place for a speaker in the fuel tank. I put a 20mm speaker in there, but it just isn't right.. So I'm thinking about an iPhone speaker... On a side note.. Does anyone know what MV lenses would fit the lights I have? Thanks, Stuart

Just an update.. I've been playing with the digitrax sdxh166d sound decoder and have a scheme I like, but haven't gotten a couple bugs worked out yet.. The chassis runs fine otherwise.. I'm not set up to paint, so a friend of mine helps with that.. So, we sprayed Wisconsin Central maroon on the shell today and this is what it looks like.. We thought it was to dark, so we're going to try to match it to the micro scale decals.. I'll keep you updated... Stuart

Here are some in process shots.. Unfortunately work decided to change my schedule for 3 months, so I'm not going to be able to do much modeling. My friend who is going to teach me how to paint, decal and weather is doing the painting, decaling and weathering on this one. Stuart

That looks really nice! I do have a soft spot for the NC&StL and those geeps riding on switcher trucks.
Keep up the good work, G

Thanks for the compliments!! I can't take credit for the paint and decals, though.. My friend doing the work said this was by far the most difficult one he has ever decaled... Here are some finished decal pics... Now it's on to weathering and finishing up.. Thanks again, Stuart

Howdy,
Just a quick update.. It's about finished.. Pictures coming soon.. I wired the lights and mated the shell and chassis.. I installed a tsunami in it and programmed it. It could use some fine tuning, but it works.. I just need to touch up a couple things and call it done... I hope y'all like it..
