Well guys, I've done it now. Bought a piece of Ohio real estate. Well, ok, I've bought a shed in which I intend modeling a piece of Ohio real estate! Delphos to be precise. Down side is that planning permission was only secured from the domestic authorities on condition I tidied up the garden. 30 litres of fence preservative. 10 litres of decking stain and 4.5 tonnes of slate chippings duly ordered. Work has started. Shed has arrived but can't go up until the stone is down. Electrician sorted for wiring up (mates rates). Then it will be layout planning time! Shed is nominally 16 foot by 10 foot. Not huge for an American basement, but massive by my former 9x9 shelf layout ideas! All advice on layout/baseboard construction gratefully received as are any track plan suggestions. Mainly the NKP/AC&Y interchange and surrounding area but, if space permits, the PRR crossing further south. Two levels - scenic above staging. Would like to operate end-to-end fashion, but have a connection for through running when I'm in the mood for watching the trains go by. DCC, but no sound initially. One man operating, but occasional visitors to be catered for. Anything else I should be thinking about?

That's a pretty big shed!!!
my only advise; don't use sundela board for the base.

Nice, sounds like a good home for a layout. That's how I end up getting stuff/space for my hobbies. Have to barter with the powers that be.

Shed almost complete, just awaiting electrician to quote for sockets, lighting etc. Carpet about to be ordered. Haven't had time to download track planning software yet, so if anyone wants to draw me up a 16' x 10' layout plan, I won't stand in your way! Older plasma TV awaits a mounting bracket, leather swivel chair procured, brewing equipment prepared (India Pale Ale and German Lager for choice) and domestic authorities placated! It's going to cost me a trip away for our anniversary next month, but that's a small price to pay! I want to make a few signs for the doorway; I thought a 'Nickel Plate Road' emblem and a station nameplate-style 'Delphos' would do for a start. Maybe a "no women when the soccer's on"?

Sounds like a great plan Malcolm. My only surprise is that you're is talking about 'soccer'

You know, this post really confused me until I realized the OP was located in the UK then it made perfect sense.

You know, this post really confused me until I realized the OP was located in the UK then it made perfect sense. Ha! You finally realised that all us Brits are a bit screwy! Lol As for soccer, watching it on the plasma TV in the shed, I support The Bluebirds (Cardiff City) whereas the two females in my household support Aston Villa, both of them being Birmingham lasses (UK's second city, in Warwickshire, not Alabama!). I even somehow got married with claret and blue accessories, the Villa colours! Can't stop the wife watching the trains though!

Well I bet your girls were in a great mood after Saturday's debacle, and I'm sure you aren't liking today's scoreline much either.

Nah, just got confused at someone actually wanting anything to do with Ohio real estate... J/K! BTW, what is the deal with the Blue Birds going to RED uniforms? The owner thinks it's a lucky color so he changes a time honored tradition into something that makes absolutely zero sense? It's like the guy trying to change the Hull City Tigers to just the Hull Tigers... Leave tradition alone fer cripes sake. Hope you guys can scramble back to the big time. Solskjaer's gone, but you still have Tan there to muck things up.

muck......yes, that's a good word for it!!! Bluebirds, blue shirts......now have red shirts with a Red Dragon on the badge with a minuscule Bluebird below it! Tan may have money but little understanding of football.....sorry...soccer fans! Over 100 years of tradition thrown out! The bar steward!

nice to hear you are making progress!
I was recently told about a layout design software called SCARM, can do 3D etc, worth checking out and having a play.
Keep up the progress!
