I have finally gotten around to making a thread on this, the HO scale model of NS 6920 I've been building. I started with a UP Proto 2000 SD60, and the cab is built from a Detail Associates SD60M cab and a lot of styrene. None of the details are perfect, since I made no changes to the long hood and I didnt trust my kitbashing skills enough to do some changes to the cab. (This is my first kitbash of anything). Here are the two most recent pictures of it, taken tonight. The next thing to do is to improve the way the cab mounts to the frame. Making Progress. by lego-studios34, on Flickr Quick progress shot on NS 6920 tonight. All the decals on the engineers side are done, with the exception of Micro-Solling them.

How did you mask the blue paint?

How did you mask the blue paint? I made a photocopy of decal sheet, cut out the decal for the ribbons, and masked the side using that as the template.

Good work here!
I like the cab, especially your rendition of its "brow".
Looks pretty good.

Gonna ask for a little help here if anyone is actually reading this - as you may notice, the frame is bent right at the rear of the cab. When I take the shell off the frame, it doesn't have that problem, it's only bent once I put it on the chassis and screw in the coupler boxes. Any idea what's causing that or can anyone confirm my hunch that the problem will go away if I trim down the ends of the chassis slightly?

Perhaps you have something too high where the cab meets the chassis? I think that is how some P2K units get the bent steps.

Thanks for your suggestion Packer, turns out the problem was the DCC decoder (explanation below) Finally was able to (almost) fix the bent frame on my model of NS 6920 tonight. Turns out that the DCC decoder was getting in the way of the shell sitting all the way down, so I took it out and I'm going to get a N-Scale decoder and put it in the cab so there will be room. Now the bend is down to less than one millimeter, but I may file down the chassis at the rear end a little bit more to see if that helps.
