im hoping to get started on this project real soon. been wanting one for a while now and have been reading up on how to do it. i have the chaise and the motor ready for one at the moment. just ned to get the shell and wire for the railings. what would be the best wire to use for them? im looking into using the utah pacific detail dynamic break parts and the high mount radio and get some fans for the cooling system. idk what else is needed. help in this area would be appreciated. -inprr

if your using the Utah pacific dynamic brake parts those are for an sd40 not an sd40-2 if your building an sd40-2 cables like the BN trio use the athearn dynamic brake part from the body that is if your basing this build off the BN units if not and your making a freelance MRL version then as you were just offering some thoughts plus most cables units would not have a radio antenna no need for one unless your doing a radio platform like the atsf used for locotrol or as it's known now as DPU

Try this for the link (I had to copy/paste the whole link from the earlier post, for some reason it cut off). First question: Whose shell are you planning on using? If Athearn, it should have the DB hatch available. If you want to relocate the dynamics, then also get a non-dynamic section to fill in the area behind the air dome and radiators. If doing this, you would then need to remove the exhaust stack/hatch from the (relocated) DB piece. I would assume the same for Kato, but am not 100 percent sure as I have not played with them. As for fans, Cannon makes excellent DB and radiator fans.

okay I seen the sd40-2's your trying to use as a guide as for the dynamic brakes you'll need to use the athearn dynamic brake section whether you mount the dynamics in the cab area or leave them in the stock location as the Utah pacific are for the sd40 not the sd40-2 there is a difference in the 2 dynamics of each unit there are plenty of pics at rrpicturearchives, as rr-fallenflags is gone and not around now hope this helps some or you cam go to bnphotoarchives and look up bn 7500-7503? there are some decent pics there to help you out
