Seemingly every summer I get the itch to start modeling again, a rash of ebay purchases and custom detailing ensues, then it winds down once winter arrives. Not sure why I'm wired that way, but regardless, I figured I'd post a few pics of what I was, and still am working on. Even the pictures are nearly a year old...
The HLCX is in the same state as shown here. Still needs ditchlights, MPI pilot chevrons, MU and air hoses, and some smaller assorted decals before I am satisfied. The CSXT 8883 on the other hand is getting white numberboards as I type.
GCFX 3074 has been touched up recently in the form of black window gaskets, and I will apply the "SD40-2" decal on the sill this evening. I need to pop the dull grey ditchlights off, paint them accordingly and then add lenses. After that, I need to add the accessory decals on the long hood. Helm 6228 is missing it's yellow dashes along the frame, as well as more warning labels sprinkled along the long hood (notice a pattern?)
I also stripped a UP painted KATO SD40 a few days ago, which will most likely become CEFX 2802 in the future. A simple decal job it is looking not to be, as the original engine was built for the Canadian National. Strangely enough the only real hints to it's past are vertical long hood lights, the GMD split air tanks, pilot lift rings, and the low profile dust bin cover. I think I'll probably sacrifice the latter but add the other details. Might skip the railflyer tanks and just cannibalize regular length versions If I can.
Hopefully next summer I can show these all as finished models...
